Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara will not be playing in the Hawkeyes’ upcoming game against Maryland due to a concussion he suffered in a previous game. Despite missing the last two games, McNamara is aiming to return to the field against Nebraska in the regular-season finale. In a statement, McNamara addressed rumors about his status in the media, declaring them false and affirming his commitment to the team.
In McNamara’s absence, the Hawkeyes will turn to Jackson Stratton, a sophomore walk-on transfer from Colorado State, to start against Maryland. Stratton previously entered the game in relief of Brendan Sullivan, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the last game. Stratton completed three of six pass attempts for 28 yards in the Hawkeyes’ loss to UCLA.
McNamara was cleared to practice but had an adverse reaction that prevented him from participating in midweek practices. Despite the setback, he is determined to make a comeback against Nebraska. The Hawkeyes will have to rely on Stratton to lead the team in the upcoming game, as they continue their quest for a win against Maryland.
