The Southern Illinois University Carbondale STEM Education Research Center recently visited Unity Point Elementary School in Carbondale and Carruthers Elementary School in Murphysboro to honor students who excelled in the American Math Olympiad. Led by Dr. Harvey Henson, the STEM program aims to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in the Southern Illinois region. The American Mathematics Olympiad, which caters to students in grades 2-12, is organized by the SIU STEM Education Center in collaboration with the Singapore International Mastery Contest Center. The program seeks to create a culture of enthusiasm for math teaching and learning. Awarded prizes include medals, certificates, and membership in International Honor Societies.
