Iowa City – The new-look Iowa Hawkeyes showcased their high-octane style of play in a dominating 110-55 victory over Missouri Western in their lone exhibition game of the season. Led by junior forward Hannah Stuelke and freshman wing Teagan Mallegni with 18 points each, Iowa overwhelmed the Griffons with stifling defense, forcing turnovers and out-rebounding their opponents.
Transfer guard Lucy Olsen impressed with 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists, showcasing her leadership on the court. The Hawkeyes displayed a relentless defensive effort that translated into transition offense, with players like Mallegni and Kylie Feuerbach contributing on both ends of the floor.
The rotation of players showed depth and versatility, with reserves getting valuable minutes on the court. Despite some surprises in the starting lineup, Coach Jan Jensen emphasized the competitiveness within the team and the need for a collective effort, rather than focusing on individual starters.
Freshman standout Teagan Mallegni’s impact was notable, showcasing her scoring ability and defensive prowess. Alongside fellow freshman Taylor Stremlow, they disrupted the Griffons’ backcourt and energized the crowd with their play.
Looking ahead, the Hawkeyes aim to maintain their fast-paced and team-oriented style of play as they transition to regular-season games. With new faces making an impact and veterans stepping up, Iowa appears poised for a successful season. Fans can expect an exciting brand of basketball from the Hawkeyes as they continue to build on their impressive exhibition performance.
