Students from Cochise College and Douglas High School recently joined forces to clean up the Bisbee-Douglas Jewish Cemetery. The collaborative effort was organized by the Cochise College Multicultural Club and the Douglas High School Key Club, with the goal of restoring the cemetery to its former glory.
The cemetery, located in Bisbee, Arizona, is the final resting place for many members of the local Jewish community. Over the years, the cemetery had fallen into disrepair, with overgrown vegetation and broken headstones. The students spent several hours clearing away debris, trimming overgrown bushes, and repairing damaged gravestones.
The cleanup project was not only important for preserving the history of the Jewish community in Bisbee, but also for fostering a sense of community and teamwork among the students. Many of the students were not familiar with the history of the cemetery or the Jewish community in the area, and the cleanup project provided them with an opportunity to learn about and honor that history.
The students worked tirelessly under the hot Arizona sun, and their efforts did not go unnoticed. Local residents and community members expressed their gratitude for the students’ hard work and dedication in restoring the cemetery. The cleanup project was not only a physical labor of love, but also a symbolic gesture of unity and respect for the past.
In the end, the students were proud of their accomplishments and the impact they had made on their community. The cleanup of the Bisbee-Douglas Jewish Cemetery was a successful collaboration between students from Cochise College and Douglas High School, demonstrating the power of working together to preserve history and strengthen community ties.
