Man convicted of murdering 4 relatives and pregnant woman in dispute over curfew from teenage years.

Raymond Childs III, a 21-year-old man from Indianapolis, was found guilty of six counts of murder, including the killing of five people, one of whom was a pregnant woman, in January 2021. He was also convicted of attempted murder and carrying a handgun without a license. The killings occurred following an argument over Childs staying out late, and he methodically shot each victim in their home. One of his brothers, who was 15 years old at the time, was also shot but survived after fleeing the house. The jury deliberated for about three hours before reaching a verdict in his second trial, after a mistrial was declared in his first trial due to a witness verbally confronting him in front of the jury. Childs faces a sentencing of 40 to 65 years in prison on each murder count, 20 to 40 years for attempted murder, and one to six years for carrying a handgun without a license. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office expressed that the verdict provided justice for the victims and their families, and highlighted the dedication of the trial team, law enforcement, and witnesses throughout the difficult journey of seeking justice for the victims. Childs’ sentencing was scheduled for January 7, and there was no immediate comment from his attorney.
