Beggars’ Night Forecast Holds Stormy Outlook for Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa — As the festive Beggars’ Night and Halloween approach, Iowans should prepare for a series of weather events that may disrupt plans. With current gusts reaching 30-35 mph, weather conditions are expected to intensify, prompting a Wind Advisory effective from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Gusts could peak at 45 mph across much of Iowa.
A cold front is forecast to move in from the west on Wednesday, bringing a line of showers and thunderstorms. While a strong storm is possible late Tuesday in northwest Iowa, the overall risk remains low. However, as the front advances on Wednesday, the chance of severe weather rises to a level 2 risk, with the main threats being large hail and damaging winds. Storms are expected to reach northwest Iowa between mid to late morning, impacting the metro area around 4-9 p.m.
Rainfall may range from 1 to 2 inches, which could pose a challenge for little trick-or-treaters out in their costumes. Residents are advised to stay alert and ensure they have access to weather alerts as they plan their evening activities.
Temperatures will drop significantly following the front, falling from the 70s on Wednesday to a brisk mid-50s on Halloween. Winds will keep conditions feeling raw throughout the day. The weather is expected to clear briefly on Thursday and Friday, with a return to sunny and windy conditions as temperatures gradually warm to the upper 50s to low 60s.
In addition, more rain is anticipated on Saturday, continuing into Monday, although severe weather threats for the weekend appear minimal at this point. Iowa’s meteorologists advise residents to remain vigilant as weather patterns evolve in the days to come.
