Unbeaten Surge in College Football Sets Stage for Thrilling November

Ames, Iowa — This season in major college football has seen an unprecedented surge, with eight unbeaten teams entering November—none of which were in this position last year, or for many seasons prior. The teams making headlines include No. 1 Oregon (8-0), No. 3 Penn State (7-0), No. 5 Miami (8-0), No. 9 BYU (8-0), No. 11 Iowa State (7-0), No. 13 Indiana (8-0), No. 18 Pitt (7-0), and No. 21 Army (7-0).

Miami’s running back, Mark Fletcher Jr., expressed the team’s mindset after their recent victory over Florida State, saying, “We’ve just got to keep attacking, go 1-0 every single week. On to the next.” While teams like Oregon, Penn State, and Miami started the season strongly, the success of the others—five of which were unranked in the AP Top 25 preseason—has been unexpected. Indiana offensive lineman Mike Katic reflected on this surprising success, stating, “It means everything…I’m so proud of this team.”

Particularly historic are Iowa State and Indiana’s streaks; the last time Indiana was unbeaten going into November was 1967, while Iowa State hasn’t achieved this feat since 1944, with its last undefeated record extending back to 1938.

Looking ahead, the teams face significant challenges in the coming month. No. 3 Penn State will clash with No. 4 Ohio State, while No. 11 Iowa State’s schedule includes tough matchups against top-ranked teams. Meanwhile, No. 18 Pitt will look to maintain its strong defensive performance against formidable opponents like Clemson.

As November approaches, football fans can anticipate exciting matchups and potential shakeups in the rankings as these unbeatens battle for supremacy.
