Report Released by Army Regarding Trump Campaign Incident at Arlington Cemetery

The U.S. Army released a redacted police report describing a “simple assault” incident involving a Trump campaign staffer pushing an Arlington National Cemetery worker in August. The report stated that the worker did not require medical attention and did not want to press charges. The Army spokesperson mentioned that the investigation is ongoing. The documents were released after American Oversight sued for them and a judge ordered the Defense Department to provide them.

Trump was present at the cemetery on the day of the incident, where he participated in a wreath-laying ceremony. The incident occurred in a restricted area of the cemetery known as Section 60. Arlington National Cemetery stated that political campaign activities are prohibited in military cemeteries, including the use of photographers.

The Trump campaign spokesperson denied elements of the incident, while an unnamed person allegedly blocked members of Trump’s team. Former White House chief of staff John Kelly accused Trump of being fascist and making questionable remarks about service members during a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. Trump has denied these reports.

The incident, along with Kelly’s accusations, has added to the scrutiny of Trump’s handling of military issues. Trump has denied making offensive remarks reported by The Atlantic and recounted by Kelly.
