John Kelly, former White House chief of staff during the Trump administration, stated in recent interviews that former President Donald Trump fits the definition of a fascist. Kelly mentioned in an interview with The New York Times that Trump falls into the category of far-right authoritarianism and has expressed admiration for dictators, including Adolf Hitler. Kelly reported that Trump had made positive comments about Hitler, praising the loyalty of his generals. However, a Trump campaign spokesperson denied these claims as debunked stories.
Kelly also revealed that he had reminded Trump of the loyalty of U.S. generals to the Constitution and the rule of law when Trump criticized them. Democrats have compared some of Trump’s rhetoric to that of Hitler, especially in relation to immigration. Trump had made controversial remarks about immigrants “poisoning the blood of our country,” reminiscent of Hitler’s disdain for immigration in his manifesto.
The Atlantic had previously reported Trump’s alleged admiration for Hitler’s generals, which was denied by Trump’s spokesperson. The Democratic vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz, expressed disgust at this revelation during a campaign rally. The Trump campaign has refuted these claims. Kelly’s statements highlight the ongoing controversy surrounding Trump’s political ideologies and rhetoric, drawing parallels to fascist tendencies and Hitler-like sentiments.
