Despite the divided nature of the country, a majority of voters do not approve of the Biden presidency. This sentiment is reflected in his low approval ratings and unpopularity on various issues, leading to former President Donald Trump having a 50-50 chance of returning to the White House in the next election. Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced Biden as the Democratic candidate, faces challenges due to this negative perception of the Biden administration, particularly in terms of economic policies, or “Bidenomics”.
In a recent NBC News poll, “Bidenomics” was viewed negatively by voters, including swing voters who are crucial in determining the election outcome. Harris’ alignment with Biden and her recent statement on “The View” where she could not name a decision of Biden’s she disagreed with, may negatively impact her campaign. The GOP is focusing on Harris’ ties to Biden and his unpopular policies to make the election a referendum on the Democratic Party and potentially secure a win for Trump.
Harris faces an uphill battle as a sitting vice president running for president, with historical trends showing a low success rate for previous VPs. As the election approaches, Harris will need to differentiate herself from Biden to win over voters. While Trump’s age and stamina could be a concern, the potential for a split between the popular vote and the Electoral College may be less likely this cycle, potentially impacting the final outcome of the election.
