Michelle Obama has been working behind the scenes to boost turnout in key swing states for Vice President Kamala Harris, but she has yet to schedule an official appearance for her since the Democratic National Convention. This is due to concerns about security following two assassination attempts against former President Trump. Despite Barack Obama and Bill Clinton stumping for Harris, Michelle Obama’s absence on the campaign trail has been notable. However, it is expected that she will add Harris campaign events to her schedule as Election Day nears.
Michelle Obama’s political efforts have primarily focused on the voter registration and engagement initiative “When We All Vote,” which aims to mobilize 5 million voters in this cycle. She does not intend to seek the presidency and has expressed her disdain for partisan politics. Deploying Michelle Obama for Harris’s campaign may be most effective at the very end to move the needle the most.
Former President Obama has already begun providing support for Harris with a series of appearances and rallies in key battleground states. Former President Clinton is also holding campaign events and rallies for Harris. Overall, there is a desire among some party insiders to see an all-hands-on-deck effort from the biggest names in the Democratic Party to ensure a successful November election.
