The Israeli military has announced that it killed the head of the Islamic Jihad militant group’s network in Nur Shams, a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank. Muhammad Abdullah was killed in an airstrike in a joint operation with the Israel Security Agency. Abdullah was responsible for multiple attacks against Israeli soldiers in the Tulkarm area and was the successor to Muhammad Jabber, who was killed by Israeli forces in August.
In response to Israel’s retaliatory attacks, Iran has been urging Arab nations not to allow Israel to use their airspace for any strikes. Iran warned that countries assisting Israel could potentially become part of a war and that key installations in Arab nations hosting U.S. bases could become targets. Diplomats from Gulf countries have expressed fears of being caught in the crossfire and are focusing on de-escalation.
Meanwhile, Israel has been accused of targeting U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon as airstrikes intensified in Gaza and Beirut. Dozens of people were killed in the Israeli airstrikes on Deir Al-Balah in Gaza and the Basta neighborhood in Beirut, where residential buildings were destroyed. The United Nations has condemned Israel for attacking its peacekeeping force along the Lebanese border. The situation remains tense as violence continues to escalate in the region.
