Former Iowa Democratic Party Chair and current Democratic National Committee member, Scott Brennan, has not taken a public stance on whether President Joe Biden should end his re-election campaign amid concerns about his mental fitness. However, Brennan acknowledged that a decision must be made soon. With a growing number of Democrats in Congress calling for Biden to step aside, Brennan predicts that there is a 70% chance Biden will drop out and an 80% chance Vice President Kamala Harris will become the nominee if he does.
If Biden were to drop out at this late stage in the campaign, Brennan believes it would be “unchartered territory.” The Democratic National Convention is set to begin on August 19th in Chicago, where the party will officially nominate its candidate for the presidential race.
The speculation surrounding Biden’s potential exit from the race comes amid growing concerns about his ability to serve another term in office. With the number of Democrats voicing their doubts increasing, the pressure on Biden to make a decision is mounting. The coming weeks will be critical as the party looks towards the convention to determine its path forward in the 2024 election.
