Iowa sports betting operators saw a decrease in wagers and revenue for the month of June compared to May, according to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC). In June, operators accepted $146.6 million in wagers, down from $182.4 million in May, resulting in $3.8 million less in revenue generated. However, they collected $12.49 million in net receipts, with an increased 11.7 win percentage.
The state also reported a decrease in state tax revenue, with $843,000 generated in June compared to $1.12 million in May. Despite this, the fiscal year-to-date totals for Iowa sports betting have increased since 2023, with a rise in handle, net receipts, and total tax revenue.
There are currently 17 active online sportsbooks in Iowa, with DraftKings and FanDuel leading in handle and revenue for the month of June. DraftKings received the largest handle at $57.6 million, while FanDuel generated $33.7 million in handle. Caesars and BetMGM also had significant handles but saw a decrease in revenue compared to the previous month.
ESPN BET and bet365 experienced a decline in betting handle in June, with bet365 still managing to increase revenue slightly. However, ESPN BET saw a significant decrease in revenue from May to June.
Overall, Iowa’s sports betting industry continues to show growth, with an increase in total wagers and revenue compared to previous years, despite fluctuations in monthly performance.
