After nearly a year of deployment in the Middle East, soldiers from the 831st Engineer Vertical Construction Company are finally heading home to Iowa. Families are eagerly anticipating the reunion, with many looking forward to emotional moments and milestones that were missed during the time apart.
Hannah Ware, wife of First Lieutenant Bradley Ware, is excited for her young daughter to walk to her father for the first time. Rosie Burnell, whose husband Sgt. Brett Burnell missed many firsts of their baby while away, is also eager for his return. Both families are overcome with emotion and anticipation as they prepare to be reunited.
The 831st completed over 50 construction projects at various bases during their deployment, and will be welcomed home with a ceremony at the Des Moines Airbase. The soldiers have been recognized with more than 150 Army Commendations and Achievement Medals for their hard work and dedication during their time overseas.
The families of the 831st are grateful for the sacrifices made by their loved ones, and are looking forward to focusing on the future as a family once they are finally reunited. The long-awaited homecoming is a time of celebration and joy as the soldiers return to their loved ones after a year of service abroad.
