Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird addressed the crowd at the Republican National Convention, emphasizing the importance of supporting law enforcement and reducing crime by electing former President Donald Trump in 2024. Bird, who was elected in 2022, highlighted her victory as a response to Iowans’ desire for an attorney general who prioritizes protecting citizens and standing up to Democratic policies.
During her speech, Bird criticized President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Democratic Party for their approach to crime, accusing them of neglecting victims and supporting the “defund the police” movement. She reiterated her support for Trump, whom she endorsed in 2023 and campaigned for during the Iowa caucuses.
Despite Trump’s legal troubles, including 34 felony counts in a hush-money trial, Bird did not mention his convictions in her remarks. In addition to her speech at the RNC, Bird participated in the vice presidential nomination process and backed Trump’s candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.
