Delaware 4-H is encouraging fairgoers to stay active at the Delaware State Fair with their third annual Get Walking challenge. The challenge was created by Lindsey Hughes and Kaitlin Rogers to promote healthy living and active lifestyles.
Participants can register in one of eight age divisions and track their steps on a website throughout the fair. The goal is to accumulate as many steps as possible, with winners in each age group receiving gift cards. The competition has been expanded to include all fairgoers, with about 125 participants each year.
The challenge is part of Delaware 4-H’s Healthy Living Curriculum, which focuses on promoting active lifestyles. It encourages participants to stay hydrated and get enough exercise while at the fair. The competition is independent, meaning participants are responsible for getting their own steps.
According to Ms. Rogers, the challenge has inspired more activity among participants, with some opting to take walks around the fairgrounds in the morning. Overall, the Get Walking challenge serves as a fun and engaging way to promote healthy habits and keep participants moving during the fair.
