The Iowa Wild have announced the signing of defenseman Will Zmolek to a one-year contract. Zmolek, a native of Rochester, Minnesota, is a former third-round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2019 NHL Draft.
The 21-year-old defenseman played for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in the NCAA last season, appearing in 29 games and recording four assists. Zmolek is known for his physical style of play and defensive prowess, making him a valuable addition to the Wild’s roster.
“We are excited to add Will Zmolek to our team,” said Iowa Wild general manager Tom Kurvers. “He is a young defenseman with a lot of potential, and we believe he will be a great fit for our organization.”
Zmolek comes from a hockey family, as his father, Doug Zmolek, played in the NHL for the San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars. Will Zmolek will look to follow in his father’s footsteps and make an impact at the professional level.
The signing of Will Zmolek adds depth to the Iowa Wild’s defensive lineup and provides the team with a promising young player who has the potential to develop into a key contributor in the future. Zmolek will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and compete for a spot on the Wild’s roster during training camp.
Fans of the Iowa Wild can look forward to seeing Zmolek in action this season as he makes his debut in the American Hockey League. With his combination of size, strength, and defensive ability, Zmolek has the tools to become a valuable asset for the Wild both on and off the ice.
