The Iowa Department of Education has announced the availability of over $320,000 in emergency grant funds to support Iowa school districts serving students experiencing homelessness in response to recent weather-related disasters. Eligible districts located in counties included in Governor Reynolds’ disaster proclamations between April 26th and June 28th can apply for up to $80,000 in funding.
The grants aim to provide wrap-around services for students facing homelessness as a result of natural disasters, enabling them to attend school and participate fully in activities. Allowable uses of funds include short-term emergency housing, school supplies, groceries, transportation assistance, medical services, and resources for parents and guardians.
Applications for the Emergency Grants to Serve Students Experiencing Homelessness program are now being accepted at www.IowaGrants.gov until July 31st. The funds will help districts support students affected by recent disasters and ensure continuity in their education during recovery efforts. Eligible districts are encouraged to apply for the funding to provide essential support for students facing homelessness due to the weather-related disasters outlined in the Governor’s proclamations.
