RAGBRAI, the iconic Iowa cycling event, is gearing up to start in Glenwood this weekend, marking the first time the town has hosted since 2016. Excitement is high among residents, including Jennifer Uphoff, who is eagerly preparing to host cycling teams at her home. Glenwood City Administrator and Finance Director, Amber Farnan, anticipates a significant economic boost for the town as thousands of cyclists and spectators are expected to descend upon the area.
Local businesses are gearing up for the event, with Joe Edwards, owner of a graphic design and apparel company, creating custom shirts for the occasion. The town square will be a hub of activity, with Joe Designer offering unique designs inspired by the hills that cyclists will navigate on this year’s challenging route. Volunteers are still needed to ensure the smooth running of the event, with Uphoff offering to host cyclists once again as they embark on their journey across the state.
From Glenwood, RAGBRAI will make overnight stops in several towns before ending in Burlington next Saturday. This year’s trek is the shortest at 434 miles but promises to be one of the most challenging yet. As participants gear up for the 51st edition of RAGBRAI, the community of Glenwood is ready to welcome cyclists and spectators alike for a weekend of fun, camaraderie, and adventure.
