Iowa State basketball coach Otzelberger refutes rumors of spying during games
Following Iowa State men’s basketball team’s recent victory over Kansas State, allegations surfaced that ISU had placed individuals behind KSU’s bench to steal information. However, Coach Otzelberger dismissed these accusations as “ludicrous” during a press conference after another win over No. 7 Kansas.
According to reports, Kansas State coaches were concerned about observers passing information to the Iowa State bench using text messages. During the game, KSU head coach Tang was seen angrily pointing at the crowd and later had a tense conversation with Otzelberger.
Otzelberger expressed disappointment in addressing the rumors, calling them an “affront to our players, our fans, and to me.” He vehemently denied the spying allegations and stated that such behavior would not be tolerated.
CBS Sports’ Seth Davis also weighed in on the issue, suggesting that Tang would owe ISU an apology if the claims turned out to be false. Despite the controversy, Kansas State suffered another defeat, this time falling to No. 4 Houston.
Otzelberger’s firm denial of the spying rumors and the ongoing support from the basketball community demonstrate the team’s commitment to fair play and sportsmanship on and off the court.
