Former President Donald Trump maintains a solid lead over Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in Iowa, according to a recent Iowa Poll. Trump leads Biden 50% to 32% among likely voters, with other candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver earning single-digit support. Despite Trump’s recent criminal conviction, his support among voters remains high, with many citing his America-first policies as reasons for their loyalty.
On the other hand, Biden’s approval rating among all Iowans remains low at 28%, with 67% of Iowans disapproving of his performance as president. Among different age groups, Biden performs best with those 65 years and older, but his approval ratings are still below 50% across the board. Issues such as abortion and immigration are key factors influencing how Iowans view Biden’s presidency.
While Trump continues to maintain favorability among Republicans, he struggles with independent women in Iowa, with only 41% viewing him favorably compared to 58% who have an unfavorable view. The poll also highlights a significant portion of “double haters” in Iowa who have unfavorable views of both Biden and Trump, with many of them leaning towards third-party candidates.
Overall, an overwhelming majority of Iowans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, with 77% feeling that things have gotten off track. This sentiment has persisted throughout Biden’s presidency, with historically low ratings indicating a lack of confidence in the country’s trajectory. The upcoming election in Iowa promises to be contentious, with voters deeply divided on their presidential preferences.
