In a recent press article, it was reported that President Joe Biden’s family has encouraged him to stay in the race for a second term in office despite a disappointing debate performance against challenger Donald Trump. While some family members criticized his staff’s preparation for the debate, they still believe he is the best person to defeat the Republican candidate.
Following the debate, calls for Biden to step aside have continued, with a CBS News poll showing that three-quarters of registered voters, including 46 percent of Democrats, believe he should not be running for president. Despite this, prominent Democrats such as Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have voiced support for Biden and his candidacy.
The president has since stepped up campaigning, delivering a fiery speech in North Carolina and raising $33 million for his campaign. While some Democrats are considering the possibility of choosing a different candidate, others believe Biden should continue running and point to his experience and record.
However, some party members, including former Senator Tom Harkin, believe that Biden’s debate performance was a disaster from which he cannot recover. Harkin suggested that Democratic senators should pen a letter asking Biden to release his delegates and step aside so the convention can choose a new candidate.
Ultimately, the decision on whether Biden will continue his candidacy remains unclear as the Democratic Party grapples with the aftermath of the debate and assesses the path forward for the upcoming election.
